As part of the RE-DIRECTION Project’s ongoing activities at the University of Patras, a live classroom experiment was conducted during the lecture of “Introduction to Mechanical Engineering” to explore gamification in higher education.

The session began with a brief presentation of the RE-DIRECTION Project, introducing over 100 first-year students to the project’s scope and its methodological framework, with a focus on digital transformation and inclusive, sustainable teaching practices.

Following the presentation, students participated in a live online quiz using their smartphones. The quiz questions were directly related to the lecture content, transforming a traditional lesson into a playful and interactive experience.

73 students actively engaged in the quiz. The aim was to correctly answer four questions, with the fastest correct respondent declared the winner.

The students responded with enthusiasm, expressing that the gamified format made the session more enjoyable and engaging. Many suggested that this approach should be used more widely across courses.
